GENE has asked ANGEL-network about new definitions and directions in global education and learning. I try to follow up developments in Finland but would like to learn from you in our Gerif network.
In your view, what terms do we use here in Finland? What has changed?
What evidence do we have?
Do we still refer to Maastricht Declaration?
“Global Education is education that opens people’s eyes and minds to the realities of the world and awakens them to bring about a world of greater justice, equity and human rights for all. Global Education is understood to encompass Development Education, Human Rights Education, Education for Sustainability, Education for Peace and Conflict Prevention and Intercultural Education; being the global dimensions of Education for Citizenship
Evidence of changing role of Global Education in initial teacher education? In civil societies and public engagement? Within formal education (including higher-ed), non-formal and informal education? If there is evidence of engagement with Global Education in areas around democracy, human rights? Is there evidence around connecting Global Education and themes around addressing xenophobia?
SDG target 4.7. places emphasis on GCE and ESD. How do these terms relate to one another – conceptually, constituency-wise, pedagogically? What does the research say?
What emerging themes and concepts do we have here in Finland?
