Dear all!
GERIF has received grants from GENE (Global Education Network Europe) and FERA (The Finnish Educational Research Association / Suomen kasvatustieteellinen seura) to organize a retreat for Early Career researchers in global education in the end of the year (probably in November or in December) somewhere in Finland. We very much hope that it will be possible to arrange a real-life event, and fortunately all seems to be fine at the moment.
However, because the organizing part of the event is going to need some work, now it would be a perfect time to sign up for a volunteer in organizing the event. If you are not entirely sure about your own timetable, it is of course possible to sign up conditionally, to tell us that you can participate if the time allows. That would help us much at this time.
So, if you are interested or would like to know more about the event, please contact me and Audrey Paradis, audrey.paradis(a)oulu.fi.
The applying process to participate into the event is going to be a later.
Best regards and hauskaa vappua to everyone!
Antti Kylänpää
Chair of the GERIF Coordinating Board

Subject: SAVE THE DATE – Ulkoministeriön kansalaisyhteiskuntayksikön järjestämä aamukahvisarja aiheesta kestävän kehityksen tiedot ja taidot: ensimmäinen tilaisuus 10.5.2021 klo 9.15-10.45
Hei!
Osallistujien toivotaan jatkamaan mukana koko aamukahvisarjan ajan, koska tilaisuuksista muodostuu kokonaisuus, jonka teemat linkittyvät yhteen. Seuraava aamukahvitilaisuus järjestetään kesäkuussa ja loput syksyn 2021 aikana.
Ilmoittautumiset ensimmäisille aamukahveille 5.5.2021 mennessä osoitteessa https://www.lyyti.in/Aamukahvit_kestavan_kehityksen_edistamisen_tiedot_ja_t….
Tilaisuudet järjestetään Zoomissa ja yhteiseen työskentelyyn hyödynnetään lisäksi virtuaalialustaa. Kunkin tilaisuuden tarkempi ohjelma ja osallistumislinkki lähetetään ilmoittautumisajan päätyttyä. Kutsua saa jakaa eteenpäin.
Lämpimästi tervetuloa!

Book Launch and Discussion
'Conversation on Global Citizenship Education<https://www.routledge.com/Conversations-on-Global-Citizenship-Education-Per…>'
Edited by Emiliano Bosio, Ph.D.
This book launch is hosted by the Development Education Research Centre (DERC) - UCL Institute of Education. It brings together Dr./Prof. Emiliano Bosio (Editor), Dr.Prof. Yusef Waghid, Dr./Prof Maria Guajardo, and Dr./Prof. Hans Schattle, 4 authors from this wide ranging new book examining perspectives on Global Citizenship Education (GCE) in higher education. Discussions will explore the book’s key themes and findings, and address the questions: What is Global Citizenship Education? Why are we in research, teaching and learning if not to be able to help enrich the lives of all students, both in the Global North and Global South?
[Book Launch.png]
About the book
The new 13 chapter volume 'Conversation on Global Citizenship Education' is edited by Dr. Emiliano Bosio and published by Routledge. It brings together the narratives of a diverse array of educators who share their unique experiences of navigating GCE in the modern university. Conversations focus on why and how educators’ theoretical and empirical perspectives on GCE are essential for achieving an all-embracing GCE curriculum which underpins global peace. Drawing on the Freirean concept of "conscientization", GCE is presented as an educational imperative to combat growing inequality, seeping nationalism, and post-truth politics. Attendees will be issued with a 20% discount for the book via the chat function during the event. To contact the Book Editor: Emiliano Bosio, emiliano.bosio.15(a)ucl.ac.uk<mailto:emiliano.bosio.15@ucl.ac.uk> or bosio(a)toyo.jp<mailto:bosio@toyo.jp>
Intended audience
This event, and the book itself, will be of interest to educators who are seeking to develop their theoretical understanding of GCE into teaching practice, researchers and students who are new to GCE and who seek dynamic starting points for their research, and general audience who are interested in learning more about the history, philosophy, and practice of GCE.
