Dear members of the GERIF-network,
You receive this newsletter because you have expressed an interest in joining the network for global education research in Finland (GERIF).
SUMMARY OF NETWORK MEETING 27.2.2019 We want to thank all the 25 people who participated in the network meeting in Helsinki on the 27th of February. It was nice to see so many competent and enthusiastic people there! At the meeting, there was a clear consensus that the new network is needed. The participants hoped that the network would make research more accessible by collecting it to one place (the upcoming website) and also by presenting research in popularized ways. Concerning collaboration, the participants wished that the network would facilitate cooperation between research and practice and encourage critical debate.
SAVE THE DATE We can inform you that the network will gather at the FERA conference on Education (Kasvatustieteen päivät) 21th - 22th of November 2019 in Joensuu. For the conference, we are planning a working group on global education. Currently, we are also applying for the status of Special Interest Group (SIG-group) within the Finnish Educational Research Association, in order to enhance multidisciplinary cooperation within global education research and increase the visibility of the network.
UPCOMING WEBSITE The next step is to launch a website for the network, in which we can share and discuss recent publications and research projects as well as inform about upcoming scientific events related to global education. Our aim is to provide you with more information on the website within April.
NETWORK COORDINATORS The network is coordinated by the following group: Elina Lehtomäki (professor, University of Oulu), Antti Rajala (postdoctoral researcher, University of Helsinki), Sanna Rekola (expert on global education, Fingo), Antti Kylänpää (doctoral researcher, Tampere University) and Heidi Henriksson (doctoral researcher, Åbo Akademi Unversity).
