The discussion event 'Human rights discourse in different cultural contexts' will take place at Think Corner (Tiedekulma) Porthania (Yliopistonkatu 3) on the 13th of October, 5-7 pm.
Individual rights in relation to the rights of larger communities are seen in various ways in different cultures. How should human rights discourse take this into account? Access to academic resources may be restricted from indigenous people or cultural minorities. How is academic boycott used to resist oppression? How are human rights supported at the University of Helsinki? What is happening at the interface of scholar´s scientific results and civil activism?
These questions and beyond will be discussed by Päivi Mattila (The Finnish League for Human Rights), Reetta Toivanen (University of Helsinki), and Syksy Räsänen (University of Helsinki & ICAHD Finland). The event will be hosted by Jukka Kekkonen (University of Helsinki & The International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies)
You are warmly welcome to join the event! There is no need to register for the event in advance.
The discussion will be live-streamed at:
