Invitation to the Final Seminar of IOM's
Comprehensive Cultural Orientation Programme for Finland-bound refugees
Funded by the Finnish Ministry of Labour and implemented in close cooperation with resettlement municipalities, IOM's three-year Cultural Orientation (CO) Programme provides training to Finland-bound quota refugees. The current phase of the Programme will be completed shortly and its outcomes presented at the Project's Final Seminar.
I am happy to invite you to participate in this event on 12 October 2007 in Helsinki at Kansainvälinen kulttuurikeskus Caisa, Mikonkatu 17 C. Please find below the programme of the event.
CO activities have been conducted both in Finland and abroad by IOM's team of multi-cultural trainers with pre-arrival training sessions carried out in Cambodia, Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, Rwanda, Thailand and Turkey and post-arrival sessions offered in Finland in close cooperation with resettlement municipalities.
CO provides accurate information on living conditions, practicalities and day-to-day life in Finland in order to minimize cultural shock upon arrival, facilitate the integration of refugees into Finnish society and help them to become self-sustainable. The training curriculum features factual information on Finnish history, politics, religion, education, housing, health care, values and equality, etc. and provides a realistic picture of what refugees can expect to encounter in Finland. A more detailed programme description can be found on IOM Helsinki's website http://iom.fi/content/view/44/8.
The conference offers a forum for beneficiaries and partners to evaluate the programme, discuss the resource tools developed and share ideas and best practices for sustaining and enhancing the expertise and experience build up over the years.
IOM Helsinki will offer lunch and coffee; participants will be required to cover travel and accommodation costs on their own.
I wish you a warm welcome to the CO conference in Helsinki !
Dr. Thomas Lothar Weiss
The seminar will take place at Kansainvälinen kulttuurikeskus Caisa (International Cultural Centre Caisa), Mikonkatu 17 C, 2nd floor, 00100 Helsinki.
Please confirm you participation by 5 October to Mr. Raqib Wahabzada, IOM Helsinki
