The discussion will be opened by
guest speaker, Dr. Karen Pashby (Manchester metropolitan University), who together with Louis Sund (Mälardalen University) developed a resource for educators in order to help them to address the difficult questions about global inequalities that
are at the heart of today’s pressing global issues.
A common concern in their work was the tendency of most ESD (eg. Anderson et al., 2016, Karyia, 2012) and GCE (eg. Andreotti
& Souza, 2012) approaches to, despite good intentions, reproduce unequal colonial systems of power in how global issues are framed and taught. The resource presents guiding principles
and specific activities for bridging global citizenship education and education for sustainable development to support educators in how they facilitate global learning.
