Job Description and Location The post is located in the the research unit Values, ideologies and social contexts of education (https://www.oulu.fi/edu/vise). Within the full-time working hours (1624 hours per annum) and an annually confirmed working plan, the lecturer shall teach the faculty’s intermediate and advanced level courses, and supervise theses.
The lecturer will work in collaboration with the professor in Global Education, lecturer in Intercultural Education and their team. The lecturer’s responsibilities include:
Preferably, the lecturer’s research follows the line of the research unit VISE (Values, ideologies and social contexts of education). University Lecturer is required to have an applicable doctoral degree and ability to provide high-quality, research-based teaching and supervise thesis work. When evaluating the merits of candidates who have applied to the positions of University Lecturer, the following will be considered: scientific work, practical knowledge of the subject if necessary, teaching experience and pedagogic education, skills to produce learning materials and other merits achieved through teaching. Good teaching skills will be proven with a teaching demonstration. An applicant to be appointed as the lecturer shall have a doctoral degree, and relevant experience of teaching duties as well as given proof of national and international networks and collaboration in the field of research that he or she represents.
When assessing the applicant’s merits, issues taken into consideration include academic publications, teaching experience and pedagogical training, other merits achieved in the teaching profession and supervising theses. In addition, experiences in applying
external funding and international activities will be taken into account. Salary Salary will be set at level 5 or 6 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The salary is in practice roughly 3 500-4 300€ per month, depending on the appointee’s qualification and performance. The position is scheduled to be filled as of August 1, 2020, or as agreed, and it is subject to a six monthstrial period.
Language skills must be stated clearly in the CV. In the portfolio the mastery of English as the language of instruction should be commented upon. A good command of Finnish language is an advantage and a non-Finnish speaker is encouraged to learn the language.
If seen necessary, the applicants’ language skills will be tested in the interviews. Application Procedure Apply online latest on 22.03.2020 The following appendices shall be included with the application: 1) A brief curriculum vitae written in English ( max. 4 pages) 2) Teaching merits that are significant for the position should be presented in English in the form of a teaching portfolio, max. four pages, which is expected to follow the outline given in appendix 1. 3) A brief presentation of research merits relevant to the post to be filled, and a brief research and action plan, max. two pages. 4) A list of publications classified as follows: (1) articles in international peer-reviewed journals, (2) articles in international peer-reviewed volumes of scientific significance and articles in peer-reviewed conference proceedings, (3) articles in domestic peer-reviewed journals, (4) articles in domestic peer-reviewed volumes of scientific significance and articles in domestic peer-reviewed conference proceedings, (5) scientific monographs, (6) other scientific publications, e.g., articles in scientific journals and proceedings with no peer-review process, and in university or department publications. The recruitment committee will interview the applicants considered best and make arrangements for demonstration lectures if deemed necessary.
