CALL FOR WORKSHOPS

Connecting Global Education Researchers in Finland: GERIF Early Career Researcher Retreat

Are you a recent PhD graduate, a PhD student or an eager Master’s student involved with global education? Wouldn't it be nice to spend time with people face to face? And what better way to spend time with like minded global education researchers than in the middle of a beautiful forest in Jyväskylä? You can share your knowledge through a workshop and attend others while relaxing and socializing. All of this for free with food and accommodation included.

The Global Education Research in Finland (GERIF) network is organising a retreat for early career researchers in Global Education (GE) at the Konnevesi research station close to Jyväskylä, on 10-11th December 2021

The retreat will allow emerging researchers to network with peers in a relaxed, informal setting and take part in participant-led workshops regarding new research in GE. In addition to workshops, the retreat includes social gatherings, meals, and overnight accommodation at the research station, for which expenses will be covered by GERIF. The retreat is funded by GENE and FERA, and selected participants may also apply for a partial travel grant.

The retreat will be held in accordance with all corona restrictions, and the pandemic situation is continually monitored.

For the workshops, GERIF therefore calls for proposals from final stage Master’s students, doctoral students, and early stage post-doctoral students in GE. We are particularly interested in workshops that introduce your own background and interest within GE, and highly encourage diverse and interactive activities (such as creating posters, leaflets, videos, or podcasts). We hope that the workshops will share your knowledge and help us to map the new, developing GE research in Finland.

Workshop proposals can be submitted via the Google Form: https://forms.gle/gMUNGHShBjwkdL5H8

Proposals should include an outline for a workshop of at least 60 minutes, as well as its potential contribution to the event and other emerging researchers in GE. Proposals can be submitted individually or in collaboration with another GE early career researcher. Further criteria and guidance can be found from the Google Form. Submissions are currently accepted and will close on the 8th of October 2021.

The purpose of the GERIF-network is to bring together researchers working with global education in Finland. We focus on encouraging academic debate and cooperation, bridging gaps between research and practice as well as presenting research in an accessible way.
