Invitation: How to teach complex global issues ethically? Discussion event on Wed 18th
Sept 4pm
How to deal with complex global issues such as power relations and global inequalities
when teaching for sustainable development? Do you want to be inspired and find ways to put
this into practice? Welcome to Fingo's discussion event on ethical global issues
pedagogy on Wednesday 18th September 4-6 pm to Fingo's office (Elimäenkatu 25-27,
Helsinki).
The discussion will be opened by guest speaker, Dr. Karen Pashby (Manchester metropolitan
University), who together with Louis Sund (Mälardalen University) developed a resource for
educators in order to help them to address the difficult questions about global
inequalities that are at the heart of today's pressing global issues.
A common concern in their work was the tendency of most ESD (eg. Anderson et al., 2016,
Karyia, 2012) and GCE (eg. Andreotti & Souza,
2012<https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/15348458.2013.835586>) approaches
to, despite good intentions, reproduce unequal colonial systems of power in how global
issues are framed and taught. The resource presents guiding principles and specific
activities for bridging global citizenship education and education for sustainable
development to support educators in how they facilitate global learning.
Find out more information of the project on the website:
